Abstract Mood Board
Abstract photography is an image which is not easily recognised, some images may be recognisable when you look into them deeper however others may just be done so that people can be creative and imagine what it is themselves.
Christopher Costanza is an abstract photographer who says he uses photography as "a medium to isolate, describe and share natural beauty."
Objectively in this picture above it is easy to distinguish what it is because it is something you see everyday, however it is still really interesting and intriguing to look at, Costanza has really gotten up close to the tree and you can see the detail which is in it. You can see the different shades and colours from where the layers are peeling off the tree. He has made sure that he has zoomed into the image and that you are able to see all the little details which you wouldn't be able to see from further away. He has made the image more interesting by photographing this spot of the tree rather than a place which hasn't got any peeling in it and all the colour is the same. So you can tell that he has thought about what he wanted to photograph and that he hasn't just gone for a boring plain tree. Subjectively this image is extremely detailed and shows what a tree actually looks like. You may not realise that this is what a tree actually looks like close up but this image has been taken to show people that there not all perfect and there not all the same.
Bill Brandt is an abstract photographer born in Germany on the 2nd of May 1904 and died on the 20th December 1983. As well as a photographer he was also a photojournalist. He was well known for his magazines "lilliput and "picture post" he is said to be one of the most important British photographers of the 20th century.
Objectively in this photograph the image is in black and white this is so that the colours do not distract your attention from the main image but you can still tell where the image has been taken from the clue of the pebbles you would guess that it is a beach. Although you can't really tell what the image is you can guess that it is either legs or arms inclined into each other. When you look at the image it makes you want to look at it for longer to try and work out what it is. The more you look at it the more intriguing it gets and the more you wonder why the photographer would want to capture this image. By the pebbles being at the bottom of the image it gives the image more to look at and it finishes it off with a better look, then the sky at the top also gives it more of a warm and peaceful feeling to it because there are no clouds in sight. Subjectively this image is very different and isn't anything you will of seen before. It is very effective because it is in black and white I think if it had been in colour it would have been too much and wouldn't of given off the same effect of the pebbles and of the persons legs.
Heidi Wrage is an abstract photographer, she started getting into photography when she started taking classes at the Photographic Centre in Dallas.

Here are a few of my own abstract images the images that I have taken of the trees were from the inspiration I got from Costanza I went really close up and got all the details in. And as you can see both images are different showing the individuality of the different trees. I also got some inspiration from Brandt although I didn't do any of my images like his I took the picture were he had placed pebbles in the image and I took a picture of some stones myself.
